Musings from the photographer

The A family - Extended family in the gardens

Another morning, another day of editing in front of me. Before bed, I finished off on a mega-size gallery and sent it off to upload to my server. Thankfully all went well, and this morning I was greeted with a fully-uploaded gallery. It's a nice way to wake up, even if that wake-up call was at 3:30 AM! Last week I had the pleasure of meeting the A family for an extended family session in a park in Richmond. As our weather has been becoming autumnal, the forecast was a touch in doubt; however, the rain held off, and we were instead granted some lovely intermittent sun amidst the otherwise overcast skies. It turns out that part of the family had literally *just* stepped off of a plane from

Halloween Mini - Richmond meets Oz

The W family is quite dear to my family's heart. We got to know them when our oldest children were in music class together and became buddies. They've gone through some difficult struggles over the past few years, but their love, joy and determination has never disappeared. I don't think I have ever seen them without smiles on their faces despite these challenges. I first did a photo session for them in February, for a very special Santa visit. It was an amazing experience, and I was overjoyed when they hired me for their twins' cake smash and older daughter's portraiture session over the summer. As autumn approached, they mentioned that they'd like me to do their Halloween portraits on

Autumn Mini - The T family

The T family joined me for one of our autumn minis in Terra Nova last week. What an amazing family! The kids were so full of love and life, and together with their parents, were willing to come together for some amazing portraiture and playtime. What an adorable group of six. Thank you so much for letting me capture your love this October, T family.

The S extended family - Festive family portrait!

The S family recently hired me to capture pictures of their extended family, including their two littlest members. It was time to update their family wall and portraits, and we had an absolute blast. While the little ones were clearly the star of the show, every member of this photogenic family showed how strong the ties of family are. From the two sons wanting to hold their mom in the air cheerleader-style to the grandparents' cuddles with their adorable granddaughters, they radiated love. And of all of these pictures, which one is my favourite? It's the last one in this gallery, the one of mom and daughter. While I can't remember exactly what led up to this shot, I have a feeling that

Autumn Mini - A family with a smiley baby

Last weekend saw a day full of autumn minis. Booked solid, I worked with 7 sets of families and extended families at Richmond's beautiful Terra Nova Park. Thankfully it was before our winter rains fully set in, and we saw just a touch of drizzle during the time we were outside. The overcast skies didn't stop us from having a wonderful time! One of the families I met last weekend was the M family. Mom, dad and with an adorably smiley baby, they were incredibly photogenic and radiated love for one another. Happy autumn, M family. It was my pleasure working with you. Your daughter's smile lights up the world.

School sessions

Over the summer, I was approached by another local photographer about the possibility of doing school sessions for her daughter's preschool. I had never thought about school sessions before - truthfully, I had always admired how brave preschool photographers were - but after thinking about it, decided to give it a try. After all, I love working with kids, haven't always been impressed with the photos my own son has brought home, and thought it might be kinda fun. Then something happened. One request for a preschool morphed into other schools approaching me. Before I knew it, I had 9 sessions lined up for this year, with another 2 in discussions and an elementary school approaching me as w

Another newborn session

...and some photos from another recent newborn session. I was hired by the sister of this mom for her wedding last summer - remember the adorable ring bearer attempting to sample the cupcakes? - and we had such a great time that they hired me again for the newborn shots of the ring bearer's little sister. Big brother wasn't particularly interested in photos the day of our shoot, but little sister and mom / dad were all smiles. The baby was 6 weeks old at the time of the shoot, so sweet and aware of the world. Welcome to the world, sweet baby M. I am so happy to meet you and to capture pictures of your family together.

Babies, babies, babies!

It's been a busy few months in the baby world. At last count, I'm up to 9 baby sessions since early August. I love all of the newborn cuddles! As I slowly start to edit my website, I'm adding the newborn photos bit-by-bit. The first three sets are in this post, and ironically, are the last three sessions I've done. A 9-day-old girl, three-month-old twin boys, and a 4-week-old boy all joined me for sessions in the past two weeks. We had such fun going for newborn snuggles, playing with props and letting the older siblings join in as they desired. So happy to take part in welcoming these beautiful people into the world!

Autumn family session at Stewart Farm

It's been about a month since an update. Quite the whirlwind! Now that we are firmly in October, the kids are back at school and we're adjusting to the tough schedule that is school - bedtime - school - bedtime - weekend. Life is good! Last month, I had a family session that quite possibly has been one of my favourites yet. We did it in the early evening sunshine at Stewart Farm, on an unseasonably warm and sunny weekend. The kids were happy to pose for the camera, and the whole family radiated love and joy. C family, thank you very much for hiring me to capture your family's time together. :). It was an amazing evening together!
