Musings from the photographer

A beautiful family and the snow

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful family of 5 for a family session. Their littlest member is only a few months old, and the goal was special pictures honouring the amazing relationships between them. Big sister, big brother and little guy were absolutely precious, and we had a great time capturing the love amongst the five some. ...and in true British Columbia fashion, we decided to take advantage of the gorgeous snowstorm the day prior by including it in our photos...from their house! The snowy wonderland outdoors created an amazing background that we captured from the warmth and coziness of their house. Welcome to the world, baby H. You have an amazing

A newborn / family session

Little A was one of my newborns earlier this month, and when we were setting up the session, mom asked if we could get some family photos of the whole family. I adore family photos and was happy to oblige....and in this case, it meant getting photos of this adorable family of 6! A evens out the score at 2 boys and 2 girls, and they have such an adorably loving family. When she needed a break, her big brothers were happy to jump in front of the camera..and the entire family stepped in for some playfully loving shots. Welcome to the world, baby A. You have such an amazing family surrounding you that I know that you'll grow up full of the best family happiness there is.

To be a mother-to-be

Last month, I had the pleasure of working with some amazing moms-to-be as part of my workshop with Ana Brandt. It was so inspiring that I decided to put out a call for maternity models, so that I could have some fun and gain some of my own hands-on practice. ...and a response I got! I have four maternity sessions booked this month, all moms at various points of their third trimesters. Part of my studio is a collection of 7 maternity gowns/outfits and some gorgeous, gorgeous backdrops to go with them. Thusfar this month, I've had two maternity sessions - the other two are in the coming week. And with each one, I love working with moms-to-be that much more. It's such a beautifully excitin

Babies, babies, babies

The past six weeks have been full of babies, more than I could ever anticipate. Baby boys, baby girls. Little ones just a few days old, and their bigger "newborn" friends between 6-8 weeks. Every baby has been special in his or her own right, with every one such an adorable gem. I'm now booking spring (late March onwards) and summer babies, with a range of package covering lifestyle and posed as well as in-studio and at-home sessions; packages are everything from mini sessions to extended sessions that can occur split up over multiple days. And in April, I'm pleased to announce that I'll be participating in another amazing workshop with a leading U.S. newborn / maternity photographer. S

Cake smashes for a princess...and a Little Prince

Over the past few weeks, I've had two cake smashes for some of my littlest friends. I got to know both of my clients during multiple sessions in 2017 - Ms. S at two Movies for Mommies sessions over the past year, and Mr. V at a family session and then again at a mini portrait session later in the year. I'm always in shock when I see my littlest ones at the cake smash. The first year can seem so long, and yet it really does pass in the blink of an eye. Both of my birthday kids had a great time in session, playing with themed props and sets before we switched to the cake. We focused on purples for S and a Little Prince theme for V, and they had a great time digging in and exploring their n

I look forward to working with you!

A fun family Valentine's Day session

I first met this family last year during my mini aviator sessions, and have worked with them twice since then. They're so sweet and so full of life and love! When their mom asked me for a special Valentine's Day session at Stewart Farm, I was thrilled for the opportunity. The weather for our scheduled Saturday dawned sunny and cool, such a lovely change from the rains of January. We brought a kissing booth for the kids and had great fun capturing them both with and without the booth. And being kids, our pictures weren't all full of hugs and cuddles, but the true joys and silliness that marks sibling love. We had a great time with some fun winter play. Happy Valentine's Day, M family. I
